Research topic The Charging Station, the Detour and the Pause: Towards New Approaches to the Location of Charging Infrastructure The project focuses on the location of electric vehicle charging infrastructure and aims to move beyond approaches based solely on spatial coverage, demand, cost, or electricity grid constraints. In particular, it investigates how the location of a charging station influences mobility practices, accepted detours, trip chains, and activities undertaken during charging. The project draws on concepts including geomatics, spatial analysis, accessibility, access ergonomics, mobility and spatial practices, with the aim of developing new indicators to support the location of charging infrastructure. Main activities The postdoctoral researcher will contribute to: analyse the influence of charging station location on mobility behaviour and accepted detours; analyse charging-related temporalities and practices; use spatial and mobility data and spatial analysis methods; develop an access ergonomics approach, including visibility, accessibility, route comprehensibility, integration into trip chains, and proximity to resources and services; contribute to the development of new location indicators integrating detour, pause, accessibility and territorial practices; conduct user surveys and/or quantitative and qualitative analyses; disseminate research findings through scientific publications and conference presentations. Candidate profile PhD in geography, spatial planning, urban planning, geomatics, mobility, transport, spatial analysis, or a related discipline. Skills and experience required: experience in geomatics / GIS and spatial analysis; experience in mobility analysis or transport-territory interactions; proficiency in quantitative and/or qualitative methods; experience conducting user surveys; interest in accessibility, access ergonomics, electromobility and energy transition; ability to write and publish in scientific English. Experience in spatial modelling, mobility behaviour analysis, accessibility or charging infrastructure will be considered an asset. Research environment The postdoctoral researcher will join the AVENUES laboratory at UTC, which conducts interdisciplinary research on mobility, territories, accessibility, energy systems and the urban environment. The laboratory notably hosts the STELLA experimental platform, including a microgrid enabling experimentation with electric vehicle charging infrastructure and building energy supply. Contract Type: Postdoctoral fixed-term contract Duration: 13 months Working time: Full-time Expected start date: October/November 2026, as soon as possible Salary: Depending on experience and funding conditions Advance announcement The official vacancy and recruitment procedure will be published soon.
