Internship Description
Title: In-depth Literature Review focusing on Well-being, Balance, and Systems Concepts
Research Project: BEST (Building a Theoretical Framework for the Notion of Territorial
System Balance)
Project Funding: "Project funded by UTC Research Directorate as part of the Young
Lecturer Call"
Internship Framework:
The BEST research project aims to develop a solid theoretical framework for understanding
the concept of "balance" and its application to territorial systems, with a
focus on modelling and the prospective development of a multi-scale representation tool
for continuous evaluation, simulation, and decision support. Taking an interdisciplinary
approach, the project seeks to explore the concepts of "system" and
"territorial system," as well as identify and analyse the complex interactions
among territorial system components. The objective is also to familiarize with the concept
of balance to propose and study the relevance of a "dynamic territorial balance"
concept, emphasizing the well-being of territory occupants. The approach also aims to
develop a robust theoretical model, which, at a later stage, will be implemented in the
development of the envisioned tool, in the form of a modular and scalable web
application.
Main Responsibilities:
The selected individual will significantly contribute to various aspects of the research
project, including:
• Conducting in-depth literature reviews focusing on well-being, balance, and systems
concepts, with specific emphasis on territorial systems, their modelling, and evaluation.
This process is essential to strengthen the project's theoretical foundations, laying
a solid groundwork for subsequent stages.
• Actively participating in written and oral communications, bringing innovative
perspectives.
• Proposing innovative theoretical approaches to modelling, significantly contributing to
advancing the research project.
• Likely to manage surveys or conduct interviews.
• Likely to present the research project and completed work in English or French, in
person or via video conference, to specialized audiences, in France or Europe (seminars,
conferences, etc.).
Additional Responsibilities:
Depending on the methodology adopted by the selected individual, additional tasks may be
necessary.
Application Procedure:
Candidates are requested to first contact Mr. Hachette as soon as possible and then send
their CV and cover letter by June 30, 2024. Although not mandatory, a candidate's
application accompanied by a brief example of written work and letters of recommendation
will be highly appreciated.
